The Terrebonne Parish Superintendent of Schools is leaving his post to become the new Head of School at Houma Christian School.

Houma Christian announced today that Mr. Bubba Orgeron is going to become the Head of School when his tenure as the Terrebonne Superintendent of Schools comes to an end, reportedly in the spring of 2026.

Pastor Ben Bufkin announced the news today, saying that Orgeron’s appointment caps a several months long search, which began in January when a hiring committee was tasked to find a new Head of School.

Pastor Ben said that 9 resumes were collected and the priority of the surge was to ensure that the values and commitments of Houma Christian School maintained in the hire.

Pastor Ben said that during the search process, Orgeron stood out above the rest and he personally did a follow-up interview with the candidate, adding that he is proud to have Orgeron as part of the school family.

“I have confidence that the Lord has directed our steps in this selection,” Pastor Ben said. “I have spent a lot of time with Bubba over the last few weeks. He is highly qualified and will work together with our administration team to lead our school.”

Orgeron has been in education for 40 years – both as a teacher, but also as a principal/administrator. He was both the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Terrebonne and also the Superintendent of Schools – a role he took over in 2022.

Orgeron will begin his position at Houma Christian at the completion of his contract with Terrebonne so that he can fully fulfill his obligations to Terrebonne Parish. Houma Christian School said that will be around the beginning of the fourth nine weeks next school year.

In the meantime, Orgeron will spend time on the HCS campus getting to know the team, while serving as an on-site consultant.

Bufkin said that he will maintain the same role that he assumed when he started as the Head of School 2 years ago and he will still lead both the Church and the School, but that he is excited to welcome Orgeron to the family, saying that he will lead the school to continued excellence.

The search for a new Superintendent of Schools in Terrebonne will begin in the coming months, but Orgeron will still hold his current post for roughly another 10 months.
