In the early 1990s, Tony Haime had a run in the WWF as Ludvig Borga, a bruising European heel who wanted to change the WWE.
Haime worked in New Japan for 2 years before getting the call from Vince McMahon to be Ludvig Borga. He started his role in July 1993 and worked months worth of squash matches, brutalizing his opponents on the road to easy victories. Borga dominated Tatanka and ended his long unbeaten streak and seemed to be in line for a huge push.
But he injured his ankle in a match with Rick Steiner in early 1994, which halted his plans, causing him to abruptly leave the company shortly after – mostly to be unheard of in the wrestling industry, making just sporadic appearances in the mid-1990s before a short-lived MMA career.
Haime became a politician, serving the Finnish Parliament from 2003-2007. But the final days of his life were not good. He died in 2010 after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His final years were spent suffering from mental health issues.
