The LSU secondary got a little deeper today with a transfer portal commitment from one of the top safeties in the portal.

Safety Andre Sam committed to the Tigers, giving LSU another able body in a secondary that could use some depth.

Sam is a veteran player. He is from Iowa, Louisiana and started his career with McNeese, earning First-Team All-Southland two-straight years. He then transferred to Marshall where he shined last season, logging 55 tackles and an interception, including a 10-tackle game in the Herd’s win over Notre Dame. It was believed that Sam would play for Tulane in 2023. He transferred from Marshall to the Wave after the 2022 season. But Sam quietly re-entered the portal and then committed to LSU after an official visit and offer.

He is expected to be a big piece to the LSU secondary. Because of redshirts and COVID eligibility years, this will be Sam’s 7th season of college football – 5 at McNeese, 1 at Marshall, then now at LSU.
