A local man who coached and helped mentor literally thousands of area kids during his life has moved to his new home in the sky.
Terry Martin died today after several months of fighting illness.
Martin was a longtime advocate for local youth sports who coached for many years. In the final years of his life, he stayed active supporting local student-athletes going to games and events to stay present and in support of our youth.
Terry’s daughter, Tammy Martin, a coach in our area, announced the news on social media this afternoon. She said that her dad was now coaching in heaven. Tammy Martin said that she and the family did not want condolences, but instead wanted friends and family to tell stories of her father to celebrate his life.
“Big T don’t want tears,” she said. “He wants a celebration of his life. That’s how he would want it.”
Since that post, several have told stories of Martin’s kindness, loving ways and his fun-natured personality.
Former student-athletes told stories of the former coach’s teachings. Others remembered a kind-hearted and fun-spirited friend who always knew the right things to say at the right time.

FROM CASEY: Mr. Terry Martin never met a stranger and always had a nice thing to say to everyone. The last time I saw him was several months ago. He said he was so proud of my work and told me to “keep on swinging.” I will, Big T. I will. Rest easy, my friend. The pain is now gone.
