2 down, 8 to go!

Week 2 of the high school football season is in the books and our local teams had some good moments and some bad. Here are some nuggets from the games in our area.

DREY GETS HIS FIRST WIN – Congratulations to Thibodaux football coach Drey Trosclair for getting his first win as the head football coach at Thibodaux High. The Tigers have a lot to clean up. They were far from perfect on Friday. They battled turnovers, sloppy play and made a lot of mistakes. But to go on the road and beat a pesky South Lafourche team is a really good win. Congrats, coach! You’ll always remember this one!

COLEMAN RUNS WILD – Jaylon Coleman was mostly kept in check in Week 1 against E.D. White. He ran wild in Week 2 against Central Lafourche, rushing for more than 200 yards in a comfortable Vandebilt win. I said it earlier in the week. Don’t sell all of that Vandebilt stock just yet. The Terriers are still a really damn good football team. They’re going to have a really solid season.

E.D. WHITE’S OFFENSE SHINES AGAIN – It’s scary hours for local teams if the E.D. White football team has an explosive offense. The Cardinals have been known as a ball control pound it type of offense that relies on stingy defense. But in 2 games, the Cardinals have scored 50+ points in both games this season and have 104 points combined in 2 games. That’s a frightening thought for locals who are going to have to try and slow them down.

LIFE ON THE RIVER – It sure looks like East St. John is going to be an extremely tough out this fall on the River. The Wildcats are sometimes a program that starts a little slow and figures things out as the season goes on. This year, they are 2-0 and have wins over St. James and Carver with the latter win coming via a 40+ point shutout. That’s not good news for the Bayou Region teams who are going to have to try and keep up with the Joneses on the river.

RED ZONE WOES PLAGUE THE TARPONS AGAIN – Last week, South Lafourche had a red-zone turnover and it never came back to bite them because they were able to get by St. Edmund 26-14. But tonight against Thibodaux, the Tarpons ran countless snaps on Thibodaux’s side of the field in the second half and were never able to find paydirt, falling in a home game with the Tigers. Have to finish drives.

CCA IS 2-0 AND LOOKS SHARP – The CCA football team is 2-0 under Jesse Turner after a win over Houma Christian. Kudos to Coach Jesse Turner and his staff on a job well done! Next up is another winnable game against 4A Morgan City. Go get ’em!
