We are 2 weeks through the high school football season and we have had some very interesting results, which has made our quest to do a Power 5 very difficult.

But we’re not Michael Thomas, so we can’t just take a week off, so we have to do the best we can with what we’ve got.

So let’s dive into it and get rolling.

WEEK 3 POWER 5 RANKINGS –

  1. E.D. White – There’s just nothing that E.D. White has done to lose their spot at the top. The Cardinals have rolled to two-straight easy wins and are 2-0. Their offense is rolling with a couple of 50+ point performances and their defense is getting better by the week. They face Assumption on Friday and that will be a fun test, but they will still be the odds-on favorites in that ballgame.
  2. Assumption – The Mustangs are 2-0 and have looked pretty good doing it, easing some of the concerns that folks had about them in the preseason. Now comes the big test. They will take on E.D. White on Friday night with an opportunity to try and prove just how good they are. We learn a lot about the Mustangs this week.
  3. Vandebilt – We told you guys last week to not sell all of your Vandebilt stock based off of Week 1. The Terriers rebounded and got a lopsided win over Central Lafourche in Week 2 to get back on track. Belle Chasse is coming in on Friday and that is a still test. The Cardinals are sound, physical and will make you work for the victory. Would be a great victory for Tommy Minton and his team to come away successful in that one.
  4. Thibodaux – The Tigers get back into the Power 5 after a road win at South Lafourche. Thibodaux did not play their best and made a lot of mistakes throughout the course of the game, but they found a way to win. That’s what good teams do. Now, can they survive the gauntlet? Thibodaux’s schedule for the next month is absolutely brutal. It sure won’t be easy.
  5. Terrebonne – The Tigers have a huge game on Thursday with Lakeshore – a game that the Tigers would love to win to get back on track. They stubbed their toe against John F. Kennedy, but that’s a Top 10 club in Class 3A, so it’s not a bad loss. To get a “get right” win over Lakeshore would be huge, but will be far easier said than done.

OK, now for our Players of the Week:

Week 2 Offensive Player of the Week – Jaylon Coleman, Vandebilt – Coleman had a huge performance in a blowout win over Central Lafourche, going for over 200 yards with multiple scores. This is par for the course for Coleman. He is a big-time player who is sure to win a few more of these before the year lets up.

Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week – Austin Jones, Thibodaux – Down a key starter against South Lafourche, Thibodaux needed their defense to step up to try and corral the South Lafourche offense. Austin Jones was excellent in the Tigers’ win making several key plays to help Thibodaux come out on the winning end of the rivalry matchup.

Quote of the Week: “I need to stop being a knucklehead and let the kids make plays,” South Lafourche coach BJ Young when asked about his team’s woes in the red zone.
