The E.D. White football team continues to hold the top spot in our Power 5 this week after yet another dominant win on Friday night.

The Cardinals continue to surge and have not been challenged yet this season. But the rest of the Top 5 around the Cardinals continues to be interesting as teams jockey for playoff positioning.

WEEK 7 POWER 5 RANKINGS

  1. E.D. White – We’re running out of ways to say that the Cardinals are the top local team. They’ve dominated their competition. They’ve scored 40 or more points in every game this season. In the past 3 weeks, they’ve allowed just 7 points total. We could list more and more stats. It’s just crazy. The Cardinals are going to be heavily favored again on Friday and will likely hang another crooked number on an overmatched foe.
  2. Terrebonne – The Tigers are 5-1 and are continuing to cruise, having scored 4-straight lopsided wins. In their latest win, Terrebonne attacked with both the run and pass, dominating Ellender on the way to a big win. The big test comes for the Tigers on Friday with a road date at Destrehan. Man, that’s going to be a fun score to follow on Friday night.
  3. Vandebilt – The Terriers are about to surge. They’re now getting into a more manageable portion of their schedule and the results are about to swing in their favor. The Terriers walloped Morgan City on Friday night and they just might be favored in all of their games the rest of the season.
  4. Assumption – The Mustangs impressed me on Friday night. They were down 14-0 on the road, but just kept battling back, dominating the game with their big, physical offensive line in a 48-41 win over South Lafourche. I like the Jacobs kid at halfback. But Reece Turner at quarterback is super impressive to me, too. That’s a tough team.
  5. Thibodaux – The Tigers were battling Hahnville on Friday before the shots were fired outside of the stadium, which caused the game to get canceled. Thibodaux is 1-4, but would be in the playoffs if they started today. They have a brutally tough schedule to thank for that. The Tigers have H.L. Bourgeois and Central Lafourche in the next 2 weeks. Both of those games are absolute must-wins.

DTB CLOTHING PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Offensive Player of the Week – Reece Turner, Assumption – Reece Turner had a career day in a win over South Lafourche. He rushed for 6 touchdowns on the ground and threw for another. I don’t have the official stats. But he had to have had 200+ rushing yards, if not closer to 300+. He was an absolute monster and he earned Player of the Week honors.

Defensive Player of the Week – Jaquez Lawson, Terrebonne – In Terrebonne’s lopsided win over Ellender, just about everything went right for the Tigers. Jaquez Lawson takes home Player of the Week honors because he was a disruptive force, logging 2 sacks for the Tigers in their win.

Quote of the Week: “The best part about it? It’s over. And we won.” Assumption coach Wil Broussard to By-U Sports before talking about his team’s win over South Lafourche.
