7 down, 3 to go!

We wrapped up Week 7 tonight with games around our area. The Friday night slate was a little bare because we had several Thursday night games this week due to Fall Break.

But despite it, we had some interesting things to follow around the area on Thursday and Friday nights:

TERRIERS OPEN IT UP – With South Terrebonne working hard to try and take the run game away, Vanderbilt opened up with quarterback Brant Babin taking the top off the South Terrebonne defense to the tune of 5 touchdown passes in another lopsided Terriers win. Sensational running back Jaylon Coleman still also had 146 yards rushing in the win, as well.

THE TRAIN ROLLS ON – The E.D. White football team was absolutely dominant again on Friday night, scoring another decisive win over Donaldsonville. We share these stats weekly. They never get old. Over the past 4 weeks, the Cardinals have outscored their opponents 195-13. Goodness.

THIBODAUX KEEPS THE PACE – Despite sitting with a 1-4 record, the Thibodaux football team would have been in the Division I non-select playoffs had they started this week. The Tigers had a must-win game with H.L. Bourgeois on Friday night and they delivered, getting a big performance from Khyren Folse in the victory. Folse had 2 touchdown grabs for the Tigers.

DESTREHAN FLEXES ITS MUSCLES – Destrehan won its 21st game in a row on Thursday in a rout of Terrebonne. That’s not a type-O. The Wildcats have won TWENTY-ONE GAMES IN A ROW. That is absurd. I can’t even get up out of my chair 21 times in a row without pulling a muscle and/or hurting something. To play 5A football and have that kind of a streak is absolutely ridiculous.

LITTLE FISH … BIG POND – We had a couple of our local “smaller schools” play up in class this week and find some success. Class 1A school Central Catholic played up and beat 3A Berwick by a 21-6 tally. Also, we had local Class 2A school Houma Christian play up and knock off 4A Riverdale. That’s some big wins and some big power points for playing up. Kudos to both of those schools on big-time victories.

JARVIS TO JARVIS – South Lafourche is going to be probably the only team in our local 4A district to have a pair of brothers record interceptions in the same district season. Just a couple weeks after Kayden Jarvis got a big, game-clinching interception in a win over South Terrebonne, his little brother Landon Jarvis did one better, recording not one, but two interceptions in Friday’s win over Morgan City, including one that was a yard away from being taken to the house. Great showing from two amazingly athletic and talented kids.
