A local golfer reached a longtime personal goal this week, qualifying for a prestigious USGA Amateur team event which will be held next spring.
Josh Fullilove and partner Jack Lee qualified for the 9th annual U.S. Amateur Four Ball, which will be held from May 25-29 in Philadelphia.
To qualify for the event, Fullilove and Lee had to compete this week at a Louisiana Golf Association sanctioned qualifying event. The duo combined to shoot 10-under for their round, pushing their ticket to Philly for 2024.
A total of 5,000 teams from around the country attempt to qualify for the event, but only 128 earn their way in.
Fullilove and Lee had to overcome chilly, windy conditions to qualify. He said it was a blast.
“It was a cold one. It was fun,” Fullilove said. “My partner really rolled the rock. … It was great.”
“We were able to get off to a good start,” Lee added. “I was able to contribute early with an eagle. Then towards the end when I was falling apart, Josh was able to pick up the slack, so we’ve very pleased with the result.”
Fullilove and Lee were teammates at Nicholls and are close friends. Their camaraderie off the course leads to good things on it with the men feeding off each other during the round.
“I’m looking forward to competing with some of the best golfers in the country,” Lee said of the team earning a spot forward. “And it’s always fun to do it with Josh. He’s such a great partner.”
“I’m so ready to play the course and be part of a USGA event,” Fullilove said.
