Week 8 of the LHSAA football season was nuts with several crazy results and some close, hard-fought games.
Let’s break it down:

ASSUMPTION GRABBED CONTROL of our local 4A district with a 14-10 win over Lutcher. The Bulldogs led for most of the game, but the Mustangs scored, hit the 2-point conversion, then recovered the ensuing squib kick to seal the victory. The Mustangs also converted a key 4th down late in the game to allow them to ice the Bulldogs. Assumption is now 6-2 on the season with a huge game at Vanderbilt coming up. If the Mustangs win that game, they lock up the district title.
THIBODAUX HAD TO BATTLE tooth and nail tonight to beat Central Lafourche. The Tigers led 22-14 with 1:24 to go when the Trojans drove all the way down the field, scored a touchdown, but missed the 2-point conversion. Central recovered an onsides kick, but was flagged for an offsides penalty, allowing Thibodaux to survive.
HOUMA CHRISTIAN FORCED TURNOVERS GALORE in a win over Jefferson Rise Charter. The Warriors got takeaway after takeaway to set up their offense on the way to a dominant Week 8 win, which improves the team’s playoff positioning.
E.D. WHITE TASTED THEIR OWN BLOOD and trailed early against Berwick. But the Cardinals kept their poise and dominated the rest of the game with their high-powered offense pushing forward for several gashing big gains. The Cardinals have scored at least 41 points in every game this season and have scored 50 or more points in 4 of their 8 games.
TERREBONNE GOT A SIGNATURE WIN over East St. John on Friday night, going on the road and beating the Wildcats 21-18. The Tigers led throughout and withstood a late rally from the Wildcats to clinch the win and all-but assure that they will be a playoff team in Division I non-select. Big-time win for coach Tyler Lewis and his staff.
SOUTH LAFOURCHE HAD COUNTLESS CHANCES on Friday against St. Louis. The Tarpons were seemingly in the Saints’ territory for most of the game. But the Tarpons just couldn’t break through, falling 21-14 in a game that was hard-fought and physical for both teams – a really well-played high school football game.
