Week 9 of the local high school football schedule was intense with several big-time results that will have huge playoff implications.
So let’s dig right into it and get into our news and nuggets!
THIBODAUX RALLIES – In what was pretty damned close to a must-win game for Thibodaux, the Thibodaux Tigers rallied from 14-0 down, then 21-7 down to push to a 26-21 comeback win. Thibodaux made plays in every phase and got some huge defensive stops to snatch away the win –a game which will have absolutely enormous ramifications in the Division I playoff chase.
ASSUMPTION TAKES THE DISTRICT in our local Class 4A district with a lopsided win over Vandebilt. The Mustangs got their power run game going and muscled to the outright district championship. What an accomplishment for Coach Wil Broussard and his staff in his second season with the team.
E.D. WHITE GOT CHALLENGED FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON by Sam Houston, a 5A opponent who came into the game with a 6-2 record. But the Cardinals’ dominant offense was the difference, scoring 45 more points on the way to a big win. The Cardinals have scored 40 or more points in every, single game this season – easily the only team in our area to accomplish that feat.
PLAYING WITH A BROKEN HAND did not stop South Lafourche standout Kade Nelson from making an impact in Friday’s game with Ellender. The sophomore defensive tackle got penetration, made several big plays and recovered a fumble – all in the Tarpons’ win. Also shining were quarterback Carson Orgeron, halfback Landin Dardar, and everyone on the offensive and defensive lines in a dominant showing.
HOUMA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ROLLED, getting their 6th win of the season in an absolute bludgeoning of Thomas Jefferson. The Warriors are going to be playoff-bound in the first season for Coach Jamar Celestin with the team. What work by he and his staff and an absolute job well-done.
SOUTH TERREBONNE HAS NOW GONE 8 QUARTERS WITHOUT GIVING UP A POINT as the Gators look to take some momentum into the offseason. South Terrebonne shutout H.L. Bourgeois on Thursday night – the 2nd-straight shutout for the team as they got their 2nd-straight win and their 3rd win overall. Next up, the Gators will have a chance to slay the district champion Assumption Mustangs.
