How did Coach O say that?

I believe it was: ‘We’re comin’.”

It sure feels like LSU is trending after a dominant 38-17 win over Auburn – a game that wasn’t even that close.

Let’s get to our 5 takes.

5 TAKES AS LSU ROARS PAST KENTUCKY

TAKE ONE: FINALLY – LSU has been so bad on the road. It’s been painful to watch the team slumber through road games the past few years and get beat by inferior talent – even this year against Kentucky. But that was a butt whooping. That was one that could jump-start a team and ignite a spark. Spare me the talk of Auburn not being good. That team beat Georgia on the road. That is a great SEC win.

TAKE TWO: SAM LEAVITT COMING AROUND – I was one of the ones who was the most nervous about Sam Leavitt as LSU’s QB1 and whether or not he could be a championship player. But as he has gotten more comfortable with his teammates and as he has knocked some rust off after missing the spring, Leavitt has been elite. Kid has 9 TDs and 1 INT in the past 3 SEC games – all with 70+% completions. That plays.

TAKE THREE: LSU HAS WEAPONS – The Tigers lacked weapons early in the year. Our early 5 takes columns all were calling on someone to step up and take that WR1 role. Jackson Harris has grabbed that job by the horns and has been absolutely elite. With Trey’Dez Green back and Watkins and Wilson and others all settling into their roles, it’s a heck of a unit.

TAKE FOUR: ELITE DEFENSE – The concern in this game was slowing down Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown after he ran wild and did great things against Auburn. He got outside and made one big play on a scramble drill, but that was it. The LSU defense was in his face throughout the game and got 7 sacks. That’s one heck of a showing for Coach Blake Baker and his staff.

TAKE FIVE: WHERE IS HARLEM BERRY? – It felt like Harlem Berry had been building some steam. Lane Kiffin announced publicly that he had taken over the role as the No. 2 running back behind Dilin Jones. But lately, he’s been almost completely MIA and has been a ghost on offense. It’s a little puzzling to see for a guy who looked like he was making some big strides.

TAKE SIX: MUCH-NEEDED BYE – The bye is coming at the right time. It has been an 8-week gauntlet for LSU. To now be able to rest up and recharge a little bit before the last stretch run is going to be huge. If you can get your other No. 7 back in Whit Weeks, it would be even more lagniappe.

TAKE SEVEN: GRANT CHADWICK HAD A BAD DAY – You have to nitpick something. LSU’s punter was awful today. It’s just one game. He hasn’t been all that bad all season, but a 33.3 yard average on 3 kicks is pretty rough. That needs to be a short-term blip because you need all of that hidden yardage with the games coming up.
