It’s officially playoff time!

Week 10 is in the books and our local teams will await their bracket draws on Sunday to see where around the state they might be headed.

Check out some news and nuggets from around the area in Week 10 action:

Terrebonne halfback Jayce Johnson ran wild on Friday in a win over Hahnville. The halfback scored 5 touchdowns and was all over the field in a big-time win for Terrebonne – a win that should lock up the team’s opening-round home playoff game. Big-time stuff.

Electrical issues with a lighting tower caused the cancellation of South Lafourche and Vandebilt on Friday, a no contest that could have playoff implications for both teams. South Lafourche feels confident it will now stay inside of the Top 28 in Division I. On the flip side, Vandebilt will now be a lock to host in the opening round in Division II Select. It’s nobody’s fault, but the way the numbers fall could make this beneficial to both sides.

E.D. White got a Herculean performance from their defense tonight in a win over St. James. The Wildcats were threatening several times in the second half, but the Cardinals stiffened every, single last time to preserve and keep a lead on the way to a big-time, hard-fought road win to finish the regular season an unblemished 10-0. What an effort.

Central Lafourche played with pride in the final game of the careers of their small senior class, scoring a dominant blowout win over H.L. Bourgeois. The Trojans end the season just 1-9, but that team stuck together and is brutally young with just a handful of seniors. Brighter days are ahead for those kids. Stay with it!

Houma Christian School ended the regular red-hot, winning 4-straight games and putting up some big numbers in the process while doing it. Coach Celestin has done an awesome job with that team and they will now head into the playoffs with some momentum.

In a 4A district we all thought Lutcher would rule, it was the Assumption Mustangs who get through fully unscathed without a loss. The Mustangs got their power run game going and rolled past South Terrebonne to take some momentum into the playoffs. What a showing for Coach Broussard and his staff to win the outright district championship.
