For most, it’s a dream to be able to compete at the collegiate level in one sport.
But for one senior at Houma Christian School, she’s going to get the opportunity to test her luck in not just one sport at the next level, but two.
Jozie Lovell signed a National Letter of Intent recently to play both college softball and also soccer at John Melvin University — giving her the opportunity to extend her career to the next level.
Lovell spoke to By-U Sports this week and said that having the chance to compete and be a 2-sport athlete at the next level is something that she thinks is cool, adding that she cherishes the opportunity.
“It’s awesome,” she said. “It has always been a dream to play both sports at the next level.”
John Melvin is getting one heck of an athlete.
Lovell is a standout at both of her respective sports — a striker on the soccer pitch who has scored numerous goals throughout the course of her career. She also is an outfielder in softball and a utility player for a Warriors team that is among the best in the entire state of Louisiana — a team that has a realistic chance to win the State Championship later this spring.
Lovell said she does not think that juggling the two at the next level will be difficult, adding that she does it at the prep level and it’s not been an issue.
She said John Melvin has recruited her since she was an underclassman and she is excited to be part of the program.
“I don’t think it will be a challenge,” she said. “I’m just very humble to be able to play both sports and I am very grateful.”
She said she wants to continue to get better and progress throughout her career and be the best player that she can be at both sports during her time on campus.
She said she hopes to finish her high school career strong, adding that she is going to continue to work hard and do the best that she can to progress in both of her sports as long as she’s playing.
“My goals are to just become a better player and grow throughout my college sport years,” she said.
