The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released their school classifications this morning, showcasing which schools will be playing in which playoff brackets going forward.

The Association sent the list to principals today. By-U Sports obtained the list from several schools in our area.

The list comes with virtually no surprises, though one local school has seemingly drawn the short straw.

The LHSAA will shift from 5 to 4 divisions from 2024-2026 with Classes B and C merging into a unified class. In the new classifications will come some relief for South Terrebonne, which will drop to Division II playoffs in all sports – down from Division I where they have competed in the past 2 years.

The same cannot be said for South Lafourche. The Tarpons were hoping to be Division II like the Gators, but they are one of the last teams in Division I in all sports, a tough blow because they will be in postseason brackets with teams that have sometimes nearly 3X their enrollment. Division I Select and Non-Select are the only classifications in the state with enrollment gaps between the higher end and lower-end schools exceeding more than a couple hundred kids.

All other classifications, the gaps are far smaller.

The LHSAA said numbers will be adjusted in 2026 during the next districting cycle.
