It was a thriller that had a little bit of everything – lots of offense, dramatic hits and immense late-game pressure.
Unfortunately for Houma Christian, it was Calvary Baptist who survived, scoring a 1-run win in arguably the best State Championship Game of 2024.
Calvary Baptist beat Houma Christian 10-9 in a thriller, one of the best games of the season.
The Warriors led early, then fell behind after a mammoth mid-game rally from Calvary Baptist.
Houma Christian trailed 10-8 going to the seventh and plated a run to cut the deficit in half. But Calvary Baptist held on and secured the title and the win.
For Houma Christian, the early stages of the game looked promising. The Warriors touched up Calvary Baptist early, rolling to a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning. But Calvary Baptist stormed back, plating 5 runs in the bottom 4 to tie the game at 6.
In the late stages, both teams had rallies, but Calvary Baptist was able to secure the win, taking the lead, then holding on late to end Houma Christian’s season.
The Warriors were one of the best teams in the state all season – a group that had seniors, but also a talented core. Coach Christi Crowdus said this year’s team meant so much to her and she will always love all of the members of this year’s team.
“No matter how it goes in Sulphur, this is a group that will forever mean the world to me,” she said.
