The Vandebilt Catholic baseball team’s ride is over – in the Division II Select State Playoffs.
Teurlings Catholic topped the Terriers 3-2 on a walk-off base hit from 3rd baseman Ryan Berard, plating the winning run and scoring the win.
Teurlings scored single runs in the 3rd and 6th to take a 2-0 lead.
The Terriers then scored 2 runs in the top of the inning to stay alive with a 2-RBI base hit from DH Spencer Guilbeau to tie the game.
But Teurlings didn’t blink. The Rebels got the lead off man Axel Tyler on, then he stole second base. The Terriers thought they had Tyler picked off later in the inning, but he slid into third base under the tag, giving Teurlings runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
That set up Berard who hit a base hit to left over a drawn in infield. The Terriers had 5 infielders on the play, but Berard laced a line drive to left to clinch the win.
The Rebels will now face St. Louis in the State Finals.
