New Assumption boys’ basketball coach Thomas Clement is ready to hit the ground running with the Mustangs with tryouts set for Monday and a busy couple weeks ahead getting to know his guys.

Part of that transition will be the addition of a former Nicholls player to his staff – a young man who is going to bring his knowledge of the game to the Mustangs’ players.

Clement appeared on The Sports Corner this morning and confirmed that former Nicholls basketball player Jalen White will be part of his staff with the Mustangs.

White was a Nicholls basketball player for the past 3 seasons – a sharp-shooting guard who worked from being a situational player earlier in his career to a starter in his senior season.

Clement said having White will be a ‘big get,’ adding that he hopes to finalize his staff in the coming days.

The Mustangs will hold tryouts on Monday, then will work hard throughout the rest of June to try and polish up their skills, while also getting bigger, faster and stronger.

Clement said he is excited to be the coach at Assumption, adding that he believes it’s a school that can be successful. The Mustangs struggled this past season but have had success in the not too distant past. He said he hopes to instill a family-like atmosphere with his team off the floor, and on it, he hopes to see the Mustangs play fast, but play as a team to try and outwork their opponents.
