Assumption has picked the new coach who will lead the school’s baseball program into the future.
The Mustangs announced on social media today that John Michael Collins will be the team’s next coach. He will replace Jayme Coddou, who retired at the end of the season after an excellent run helping to establish the program as a state power in Class 4A, then Division II Non-Select.
Collins has a decorated resume and has head coaching experience. He was previously the head coach at St. John, leading the team to a 22-10 regular season last year, taking the team to second round of the Division IV Select State Playoffs, losing to eventual State Runner-Up Glenbrook.
Prior to his time at Glenbrook, Collins had stops at Parkview Baptist, St. Louis Catholic and also Barbe. He is a 3-time District Coach of the Year and is St. Louis Catholic’s winningest coach in school history.
With the Mustangs, Collins will be attempting to keep the program going strong.
Under Coddou, the Mustangs routinely were in the playoffs and routinely were making a push as one of the top seeds – despite navigating through a brutal local 4A district.
The Mustangs finished advanced to the second round of the Division II Non-Select State Playoffs last season, losing in 3 games to North Vermilion. The Mustangs had a big senior group, but the program is historically talent-rich with several collegiate signees in recent years.
