The South Lafourche High School Cheerleaders are one of the top programs in the state of Louisiana – a group that has continually fared well in competitions around the country in recent years because of their hard work and dedication to their craft.
This coming weekend, locals will get a chance to support the team in their efforts with a chance to pass a good time and show support to the local team by assisting their biggest fundraiser of the year.
The 2024 Hooks and Leaders Fishing Rodeo will be held this weekend in Fourchon – the South Lafourche Cheerleaders’ primary fundraiser for the year – an event the team uses to fund its operating expenses for the upcoming season.
The event will be on Friday and Saturday with fun events planned throughout the weekend for rodeo-goers who are invited to come out and pass a good time in support of the South Lafourche Cheerleaders.
The cheer program locally has shined and has been among the tops in the state routinely – a group that has competed at the highest levels for the past several years. But to keep competing and holding that standard, there are expenses throughout the year and the rodeo’s primary function is to help the team with that.
The weekend is a community celebration with fun far beyond just the fishing.
On Friday, the tents will open at 5 p.m., and the weigh station will be open from 5-7 p.m.
Under the tent will be a cornhole tournament which will give locals a chance to toss bags and see who will come out on top. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with bags flying an hour later. Also under the tent on Friday with be South Lafourche graduate Joseph Pierce who will perform from 6-9 p.m. Pierce is a local man and former South Lafourche student-athlete. His musical ability is amazing and he will put on a show for those under the rodeo pavilion.
On Saturday, it’s a non-stop all-day affair. The tent opens at 10 a.m. with a silent auction, marina bar, crab races and music, food and fun all day. The weigh station will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
At 11 a.m., Bingo will be played under the tent – hosted by the Sophomore Cheer Moms. From 1-3 p.m., Ben Bourgeois will perform under the pavilion, which will give locals a chance to shake a leg to his tunes.
After shaking a leg, locals will be able to fill up their tummies with a shrimp boil at 5:30 p.m. The shrimp boil is included in the price of a rodeo ticket.
At 7 p.m., awards and a live auction will be held with the MJ Dardar Band wrapping up the night.
There will be adult and children’s division fishing categories, as well as categories for the cheerleaders, themselves.
The rodeo is hosted at the Fourchon Marina, located at 288 Floatation Canal Road.

By-U Sports is proud to be a supporter of this rodeo, but also of the South Lafourche Cheer Program. We are proud of their successes, but also the fact that the program has molded several leaders in our community.
