A collegiate pitcher with local ties announced that he has signed with an MLB team.
UL-Monroe lefty Chipper Menard announced that he has signed with the Baltimore Orioles where he will begin his professional baseball career.
Menard is the son of Vandebilt Catholic head baseball coach Chad Menard.
He pitched for UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe in his career, earning the opportunity to make it to the next level after a solid career and senior season.
Menard was 2-3 this season with a 4.60 ERA. He worked 47.0 innings, striking out 52, allowing just 35 hits. Menard’s ERA is a little misleading because he got hit hard in a couple outings, but was mostly flawless in his others.
In his final 6 outings of the season, he pitched 23 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs, striking out 28 and walking just 4, while also scattering 14 hits. Menard made 18 appearances on the season with 2 starts.
With the Orioles, Menard will move to rookie ball where he will get a chance to play minor league baseball and start the journey of working up the farm system.
