It’s another huge Olympic memory for Morgan City High School graduate Vernon Norwood.

And this time, it comes with a World Record Performance.

Norwood was part of the United States’ World Record mixed 4×400-meter relay team, a team which dominated their prelim to set themselves up nicely for the weekend’s final.

Norwood teamed with Shamier Little, Kaylyn Brown and Bryce Deadmon to take home a spot in the finals and break the World Record with a time of 3:07.41.

Norwood ran the first leg of the race for the Americans and got the team off to a strong start, handing the baton to Little who pulled the Americans from the pack and gave them a massive lead that they would never relent.

There was concern whether the Americans would qualify for the Finals or be a medal contender in the event, but the American team said they were laser focused coming into the race and wanted to put forth a record-setting performance.

The team will try and win a Gold Medal tomorrow in the finals. If successful, it will be Norwood’s second Gold Medal of his career.
