The best pole vaulter of all-time further cemented his legacy in the sport on Monday at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Former LSU standout and Louisiana native Mondo Duplantis again won the Gold Medal in pole vault, easily outlasting the competition on the way to the title.
In the process, Duplantis also made history again, breaking his own World Record with a 6.25-meter vault. Duplantis failed in his first two attempts at 6.25 meters, but on the third, he was perfect, easily clearing the bar and landing on the mat to thunderous applause. Duplantis is a Swedish-American citizen. He was raised in Louisiana, but pole vaults for the Swedish team to honor his mother, Helena.
Duplantis now has the 9 highest jumps of all-time in the history of the sport. Even at just 24, he is already widely considered the best pole vaulter of all-time with most saying that there isn’t a close second.
Duplantis topped American Sam Kendricks, who won Silver. Kendricks did a vault of 5.95 meters. The contest was all Duplantis’ from the start – so much so that Kendricks was actually on the mat actively rooting on Duplantis as he tried his World Record attempts.
