A local soccer standout who is now a senior at Nicholls State University was named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference Second Team today, as announced by the conference’s league office on Friday.

Vandebilt graduate and Nicholls senior midfielder Lauren Andre earned the honor – the lone Colonels’ soccer player to earn a spot on the Preseason All-Southland Conference teams.

Andre had an excellent season last fall for the Colonels. She played 16 games and made 14 starts. Andre played 1,163 minutes on the season, logging 4 total goals and an assist.

Andre was a standout soccer player at Vandebilt before committing to play at Nicholls. Last season, she led Nicholls in points and shots on goal. She also had a big weekend for the Colonels, recording 3 goals, which earned her the Southland Conference’s Weekly Honors – the first Nicholls player to do so since 2019.

The Colonels were picked to finish 11th in the Southland Preseason Poll – not a surprise considering the Colonels’ struggles last year. Nicholls is coming off a 1-17-1 season with a 0-9-1 mark in Southland play. The Colonels hired coach Kristy Helmers in the offseason and she will lead the team in 2024.

Lamar was picked to win the conference.
