Well that was more like it.
After 4-straight games of slumbering through the first halves of games, LSU tightened up on Saturday, dominating the first half on the way to a blowout 42-10 win over South Alabama.
With the win, LSU is now 4-1 and the Tigers are heading into their bye week with confidence.
Check out our 5 takes from the win.

5 TAKES AS LSU ROLLS PAST SOUTH ALABAMA
- It’s about time – It only took a month, but LSU finally took a game seriously from the opening kickoff. The Tigers came out with focus and dominated the game from the start. South Alabama is not an SEC program, but they’re not awful, either. They’s better than UCLA – hence you being a smaller favorite against them than the Bruins. So to dominate the game from the jump was great to see.
- Durham is that dude – Welp, we know who LSU’s starting running back is. It’s Caden Durham. He’s LSU’s best runner, he’s the best pass catcher and he easily has the best vision. The foot injury is a minor concern, but hopefully it’s not too serious. He’s head and shoulders the best running back on that LSU roster right now. It’s not close, either.
- Nuss Bus back down to earth – I think Garrett Nussmeier is night and day better now than he was at the beginning of the season. He looks more comfortable, relaxed and poised in the pocket. But there is such a thing as being too comfortable and too relaxed and Nuss let a few loosey goosey passes get out there and get picked off on Saturday. I absolutely loved seeing Brian Kelly eat Nuss’s lunch after those mistakes, and I loved even more seeing him stand there and take it. That’s something we don’t see often anymore.
- I love this new Aaron Anderson – Aaron Anderson can ball. He was a total non-factor last season, but he said some comments by Nick Saban after the Tigers’ game with Alabama opened his eyes and made him hungry. Well, stay hungry, young Lion because you have been outstanding this season. Anderson was a gizmo last year. Now, he’s a wide receiver. He makes catches in all three levels.
- No. 7 who? – Harold Perkins is an outstanding football player, and there is no doubt that he is going to make a living playing the game for a long time. But he also is a bit of a headache and questions about his role and how he’s being used have lingered around the program for 2 years. Without him, the Tigers’ linebackers were absolutely lights out on Saturday with Greg Penn and Whit Weeks dominating the game. That was amazing to see.
- Even the special teams was solid – Hey, even LSU’s special teams was solid on Saturday. Long a thorn in Brian Kelly’s side, the Tigers’ special teams had a few nice returns, downed a kick inside the 5-yard-line and were not a nuisance – at all. That’s always lovely to see.
- Bye week time – It’s the perfect time for the bye, and frankly, LSU’s schedule is set up awesome with its byes. The Tigers get to play almost like 3 chapters. The first chapter is done. Now, the next chapter is Ole Miss, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Then after the bye is the final chapter with Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. If LSU can go 10-2, they just might be blessed enough to get a 4th chapter called the College Football Playoff.
- Lardarius Webb Jr. … really? – South Alabama has Lardarius Webb Jr. on their roster. If that doesn’t ring a bell, his father was a standout at Nicholls who had a multi-year run in the NFL. To think that his kid plays in college football and is a junior, man, man, does that ever make me feel old.
