Two Louisiana schools are in the College Football Playoff Rankings.
Both LSU and Tulane are in the Top 25 this week, both outside of the Top 12, but both with outside shots at making the College Football Playoff.
The Tigers are ranked No. 22 – dropping 7 spots are a humbling blowout loss to Alabama at home, which dropped the Tigers to 6-3.
The Wave are three spots lower at No. 25.
But it’s actually Tulane who actually has a better chance to make the playoffs. The College Football Playoffs give at-large bids to the 5 highest-ranked conference champions. That will mean the SEC, ACC, Big 12 and Big 10 champions most years and then the highest-ranked mid-major team. Right now, Tulane is the third-highest ranked mid-major program behind Boise State (No. 13) and Army (No. 24).
Both the Wave and Black Knights are competing for the American Athletic Conference honors.
For LSU, the path to the College Football Playoff is bumpy, but not impossible. The Tigers will need late-season chaos to either climb into the Top 12 with 3-straight wins or to sneak into the SEC Championship game.
