Put another trophy in the trophy case over at E.D. White High School.
The Cardinals’ girls’ cross country team are the 2024 State Champions.
The Cardinals won the Division II State Championship today, using a team score of 57 to narrowly outlast St. Thomas More, which finished as the state runners-up.
The Cardinals used strength in numbers to clinch the title. St. Thomas More had two runners cross the finish line before any Cardinal, but E.D. White’s bottom-half of their lineup was stronger, which allowed them to secure the team title.
Caroline Molaison finished 7th overall (scored 6th in the team race) with Elizabeth Rodrigue finishing one spot below her teammate. Emma Ritchie also ran well and finished 10th (scored 9th in the team race).
The beef of the title chase for E.D. White was their middle of the pack with Anna Rodrigue finishing 17th (scored 16th in team race), Sarah Degraville finishing 20th (scored 19th in team race).
Those middle runners fared better than the Cougars, which enabled E.D. White to secure the team title and bring home the championship.
We will give full meet results from the Cross Country State Championships later this evening or early tomorrow.
