The Lions topped Centerville 32-20 on Thursday night to start their middle school campaign on the right foot. The Lions did not win a middle school girls’ basketball game last season, but quickly showed that this is a new year on Thursday, jumping out to a lead and never looking back.
The fifth grade trio of Zy’Nae Hester, Aria Lazard and Jaysa Thompson all had double figures for the Lions in the win with Hester scoring 12 and Lazard and Thompson adding 10.
CCA varsity girls’ basketball coach Aleshia Carey said in a radio interview earlier this week that her middle school group is as talented this year as it’s been in many years and she was “extremely excited” about the talent in the program. Coach Carey said that she has gone to a handful of practices and loves the infectious energy the team brings.
