More than 3 years after Hurricane Ida, demolition work is being done on the Ellender Memorial Gym.
The school posted photos of the demolition this week, and there was an irony to the photos. With one wall down, people can take a peek in and see ‘HOUSE OF PAIN’ on the gym’s back wall, the signature of the gym for decades as so many great Patriots teams played there over the years.
The Patriots have been in a modular campus since Ida. The storm made the campus a total loss that will have to be fully re-built.
Boys’ Basketball Coach Cornell Scott said not having a home gym has been a challenge, but also added that the school is so thankful to Terrebonne High School for sharing with them over the years.
The school is hopeful to get its new campus and its new gym as soon as possible, though the process is going to still take a significant amount of time.
PUBLISHER’S NOTE: This is so sad. We need the House of Pain back. So many great games were played there. Those kids need a home.
