Tulane’s true freshman starting quarterback will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Quarterback Darian Mensah’s representatives announced today that he is entering the portal after being named the Green Wave’s starter for the 2024 season.
Mensah guided the Green Wave to the American Athletic Conference Championship Game as a true freshman, completing 189-of-287 passes for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
Mensah is expected to pursue Power 5 offers from programs around the country in need of a starting quarterback. He will not be available for Tulane’s bowl game against Florida.
Mensah’s departure caps what has been a brutal 2-week stretch for the Green Wave.
Tulane had chances to be in the College Football Playoff if they had ended their season strong. But the Wave lost their regular season finale to Memphis, then were crushed by Army in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game, which was a huge damper to an otherwise bright season.
The Wave’s first-year head coach Jon Sumrall is also coming up in coaching rumors around the country, reportedly at the top of the list for North Carolina and other jobs, as well.
