Nicholls’ starting quarterback for the past 2 seasons has announced his transfer portal destination.

Quarterback Pat McQuaide announced on social media today that he is transferring from Thibodaux to Villanova where he will complete his collegiate career.

McQuaide was Nicholls’ starting quarterback for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In 2023, he helped lead the Colonels to an undefeated Southland Conference record and the conference championship. This past season, McQuaide’s stats were better, but Nicholls struggled, posting just a 4-8 record.

McQuaide had 27 touchdowns and 21 interceptions with the Colonels. He was used more as a game manager with Nicholls than as a pocket passer. McQuaide improved his completion percentage from 56.4% in 2023 to 58.6% in 2024.

With Villanova, McQuaide will be joining a playoff team. The Wildcats finished 9-3 in the regular season in 2024, but then made the FCS Playoffs and won an opening-round game before bowing out 13-6 to UIW in a defensive struggle. Villanova’s quarterback in 2024 was Connor Watkins, who is a graduating senior.

  1. Someone had to follow the GOAT, Chase Fourcade. Pat was that guy and had trouble in the RO offense. Good luck to him at Villanova.
