One of the top returning baseball players in our area has inked his spot to the next level.

CCA left-handed pitcher and infielder Brennan Champagne made it official today, signing with Baton Rouge Community College. Champagne held his signing ceremony before family, friends, coaches and teammates on campus at CCA.

Champagne is one of the key cogs on a CCA team that has high hopes to make it back to Sulphur this season after advancing to the State Semifinals one year ago.

Champagne earned his spot at the next level with solid play. He was a top arm, but also a plus-bat for CCA last season and figures to be a big weapon again for Coach Joe Teuton and his team. Champagne tops out in the mid-80s for now, but has room to add velocity to his frame. He was among the aces for CCA last season and figures to be again this season. He also is a middle of the order bat with pop and the ability to hit gap-to-gap, while also possessing home run power.

Champagne said he chose Baton Rouge Community College because it’s the place that felt home, and he’s confident that he can go there, succeed, then climb the ladder.
