The newest class of the Terrebonne General Community Sports Institute Bayou Region Athletic Hall of Fame have been announced.
Our partners at Terrebonne General and the Community Sports Institute announced the new, 6-member class, which will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer.
Headlining this year’s class is Larose native and former LSU National Championship head football coach Ed Orgeron. Orgeron is getting in for his amazing work as a coach, but also for his work as a state championship player at South Lafourche who then went on to play college football at Northwestern State.
Also on this year’s ballot are some of the premier sports names locally with Ernest Brown, Mark Davis, Chip Didier, Michael Parenton and Merl Schexnaildre all being inducted in the 2025 class.
Brown was a local basketball standout who had an excellent prep, then collegiate career. He also became a championship winning coach who to this day is still a local official.
Davis is a local product who had success throughout his career, going all the way into the NBA where he had a multi-year career with success.
Didier is considered among the Godfathers of local volleyball. He had a dominant career as a coach, even spending time as Nicholls head coach in his career. In addition to his success, Didier also has an expansive coaching tree with several top coaches total working with him in their careers.
Parenton was a solid football player at E.D. White and then also Tulane who has parlayed that playing career into a spot in the front office with the New Orleans Saints.
And Schexnaildre was a member of the legendary Chinese Bandits LSU defense in the late-1950s, which helped power the teams to one of the most prosperous runs in LSU history.
All of the 6 inductees are still living, and are scheduled to be presented in person at this year’s ceremony, which will be held at the Cyprus Columns on June 18, 2025.
