We are just starting to thaw out this week like everyone else, but we do have some Gengatorz Power Players of the Week to hand out for last week’s action.
One is a Vandebilt standout, another is part of a Terrebonne resurgence that is one of the best stories in the entire state.

GENGATORZ GIRLS’ POWER PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Akaja McGuire – Terrebonne girls’ basketball – The Terrebonne girls’ basketball team is one of the turnaround stories of the entire state – a team that will go from 20 losses in 2023-2024 to 20 wins this season. And McGuire is a big part of that – an attacking guard who is both a shot maker and also a playmaking distributor for her team. She is one of the best players in the area and she has quietly had a big season for Terrebonne.
GENGATORZ BOYS’ POWER PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jordan Matthews – Vandebilt boys’ basketball – This award truly could go to Matthews just about every week with the outstanding season he is having for the Terriers. Matthews continued his torrid scoring pace this week, dropping 35+ points again for the Terriers in a lopsided win, helping to continue to build momentum for the team. With the playoffs about a month away, Matthews is finding his stride. That’s bad news for opposing defenses.
