Vandebilt will be making this year’s run for the Division II Select State Championship with one of the most decorated players in school history back in the lineup.

Senior forward and Nicholls commitment Makayla Charles returned to the lineup this week, giving Vandebilt a huge boost in the form of a multi-time All-State performer and arguably the top player in our area for the 2024-2025 season.

Charles tore her ACL in summer league basketball and her senior season was in limbo.

But she rehabbed the injury and got a clean bill of health, clearing the way for her return.

Charles is playing in short spurts for the Terriers as she works her way back into shape. The hope is to have her continue to get in basketball shape leading into the final weeks of the regular season, then playoffs.

Charles showed a few signs of rust early in the Terriers’ win against South Lafourche on Friday, missing a couple easy shots in the paint that she would usually make.

But as the game went on, Charles got stronger and ended up being a key contributor in the Terriers’ win.
