Two local teams are still pushing in their quest to win the LHSAA Girls’ Basketball State Championship.
E.D. White and Vandebilt are still in the mix, both pushing to the LHSAA Quarterfinals tonight in big wins.
The No. 4 Cardinals defeated No. 20 Istrouma 70-45 tonight, pushing to the Quarterfinals where they will face the winner between No. 5 Madison Prep and No. 12 Glen Oaks. Regardless of the winner in that game, E.D. White will be the home team.
8th grader Imerii Ingram had a huge first-ever playoff game on Monday, scoring a game-high 29 points to lead the Cardinals to the win. Ingram scored inside and out and attacked throughout the game, proving too skilled for Istrouma to slow down, making a huge statement in her first-ever playoff game.
The Cardinals usually play a more controlled style, but got out and pushed against Istrouma, rolling to the lopsided win.
Across town, No. 2 Vandebilt also moved on, scoring an easy 55-17 win over No. 15 Carver.
The Terriers were never in danger, dominating the game on both ends, getting easy buckets and smothering the Rams throughout the game to punch a ticket to the Quarterfinals.
The Terriers will host No. 10 Leesville in the Quarterfinals with a spot in the Top 28 on the line. Leesville upset No. 7 Booker T. Washington 57-50 on Monday.
With the Cardinals and Terriers moving on, other local teams did not share the same fortune.
