A well-known local coach is going to be working a little closer to home.
Lockport Middle School Athletic Director and head football coach and Central Lafourche assistant boys’ basketball coach Jacob Allen told By-U sports last week that he has accepted a position as a middle school teacher at Prairieville Middle School.
Allen has been at Lockport for the past several seasons. He did great work with the school’s athletic department as AD, and the football team had success. As assistant boys’ basketball coach at Central Lafourche, Allen was a right-hand man to coach Gage Griffin and one of the bright young coaches in the area.
Allen will be going to teach at Middle School, but will be the assistant boys’ basketball coach at the new Prairieville High School boys’ basketball coach.
That school opened and started play in the LHSAA for the first time this season.
“It’s a big loss,” Griffin said. “He’s doing what’s best for him and his family. He was driving more than an hour every day to come to work, so we certainly understand his reasons. But he’s been great to us during his time here and we love him and we’re going to miss him.”
Allen had a send-off last week at Lockport, and he said it was emotional saying goodbye to all of the people he’s worked with and coached for the past several seasons.
Allen said he wanted to thank all of the people at both Lockport and Central Lafourche for their support over the years and for all of the relationships he’s built during his time as a coach.
