The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team has stayed active in the transfer portal, today getting a commitment from an experienced guard.

Mississippi native and Charlotte transfer DeeDee Shephard committed to Nicholls, giving the Colonels an experienced guard to add to their rotation.

Shephard averaged 4.3 points per game last season in 11 games for Charlotte, but was more impactful early in her career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

She averaged 9.3 points per game in 2022-2023 with UAPB. She also averaged 8.7 points the next season. Shephard started her career in the JUCO ranks.

With Nicholls, Shephard will have some playing time available. The Colonels have been hit by the portal like others, but they have fought back in recent days, getting both portal and prep commitments to give beef to their roster.

Coach Justin Payne said he and his staff will continue to be aggressive in trying to bring the best talent to the program.
