The New Orleans Saints had one of the worst NFL Drafts in the league … at least according to one of the league’s top analysts and his computer model.

William Sharp with Sharp Football Analytics says that the Saints had the having the No. 27 draft class. That estimate is based on a DCOE model which measures draft capital over expectation to determine the value of a pick.

The Saints were No. 27 – the worst team in the NFC South. The Falcons actually graded No. 1 in the NFL, according to the model.

Sharp is an NFL analytics whiz, but even he admits to take the model results with a grain of salt. Projections and analytics are a tool, yes. But even Sharp concedes that until we see how the players fit into a team’s system, the data is incomplete.

The Saints picked Texas OT Kelvin Banks Jr. with their first round pick. They also notably took Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough, among players across the depth chart.
