Houma Christian School is shuffling the deck with its basketball coaches.

Head football coach Jamar Celestine told By-U Sports today that he will be transitioning from being the head girls’ basketball coach to the head boys’ basketball coach.

He will replace coach Richard Jones who mutually parted ways with the school at the end of the 2024-2025 season.

Celestine said that replacing him on the girls’ basketball side will be Kimarcus Jones.

Celestine said he is excited for the change. He applauded the work that Jones did with the boys’ basketball program, saying that he considered Jones a friend, adding that it will be awfully hard to fill the role that he did as a teacher, but also role model for the school’s players.

But he also said that the boys’ basketball team has talent and should be in a position to thrive with several key returning pieces, including Justin Brunson, Rafi Cuertas and DJ Adams, among others.

Celestine said he is going to demand that the players work and commit themselves to the program – much as he does in football.

He said he is eager to have a big summer with the players and is excited to see the team grow.

On the girls side, Jones will be stepping into a rebuilding project where the foundation has been laid. Celestine was the girls’ basketball coach for the past 2 seasons and in that time, he recruited players to the program, helped develop them and also led the team to the playoffs for the past two seasons.

Jones was a head coach at South Terrebonne for one season and has been an assistant coach for multiple schools in his career. He will be inheriting a young roster, but a roster with talent and promise and his job will be to take that talent, foster it and turn it into a group that can make a playoff run.

Celestine said he believes the transition will be good for both programs, adding that he wanted to thank the players on the girls’ basketball side that he has worked with for the past 2 seasons.
