One of the best female student-athletes in the short history of Covenant Christian Academy went out with a bang.
Standout Maddie Carey took 2 medals at the Class 1A LHSAA State Track and Field Day today, taking home two medals to complete her prep career.
Carey, who is already a basketball signee, is also a track standout. She took home a bronze in the long jump with a jump of 16-feet, 2.25 inches. Carey has been an elite jumper all season. She scored her medal with a leap that was only trumped by Ciara Gray, of Jonesboro Hodge who won Gold and by Janiyah Alexander, of Block, who took Silver.
But Carey was not done with her work in the jumping pit. She went out with a bang on the track, as well.
Carey took home a Silver in the 300-meter hurdles, breaking her school record in the process running a 48.37-second race.
Carey said that to be able to compete at State at all was a blessing, but to have a good day was even better.
She said she wanted to thank her coaches and teammates for pushing her throughout this season and also throughout her career. Carey said being a CCA Lion is something she will always cherish.
“I came into the meet not supposed to place and I placed in both events and even beat my schools 300 hurdle record,” she said. “It was all God though, even though I didn’t expect to place he had different plans for me.”
