A power arm with local ties is coming home to finish his collegiate career.
Louisiana Tech pitcher Owen Schexnaydre announced on social media that he has transferred to Nicholls – the place he will finish his collegiate career.
A Vandebilt graduate, Schexnaydre started his collegiate career and had huge success at LSU-Eunice, posting an undefeated 14-0 season on the mound in 2024 with a 3.28 ERA.
He then transferred to Louisiana Tech and pitched in 2 games last season.
He entered the transfer portal after the season and ended up with Nicholls where he hopes to make an early and immediate impact for a Colonels team that at times struggled mightily on the mound this past season.
“I want to say thank you to the amazing coaches, teammates and friends at Louisiana Tech University who helped me through a tough year,” the pitcher said. “With that being said, I am excited to announce that I am coming home to play for Nicholls State University. Thank you to my family, friends, coaches and girlfriend who have supported me through this journey. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Schexnaydre looks the part. He’s a 6-foot, 5-inch, 275-pound righty who can throw multiple pitches for strikes and who has 90+ mph velocity.
With Vandebilt, he was a tank – a guy who would always work deep into games and give his team a chance to win, the same characteristics he showed with the Bengals early in his collegiate career when he was dominant on the mound.
