Look out, pitchers.
Gavin Dugas is starting to get hot.
The Houma native and local professional baseball player has been on a tear in recent weeks in High-A Ball in the Washington Nationals organization.
Playing for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Dugas started the season very slow at the plate, hitting just .151 as late as on May 22.
But since that time, Dugas is seeing the ball better and is starting to get hot. Dugas is 14-of-45 (.311 average) in his past 12 games with base hits in 10 of those 12 games.
In that stretch, Dugas has raised his batting average more than 60 points to .212 on the season. He also has 3 home runs and 14 RBI.
Dugas is trying to find some steam in the Nationals’ farm system to keep his MLB dreams alive.
A graduate of Houma Christian, Dugas was a dominant player out of high school who signed with LSU and had an up and down career battling some injuries. But Dugas did go out with a bang, being a starter on LSU’s 2023 National Championship Team – a guy who had an amazing College World Series, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
