A quality baseball coach with years of head coaching experience is joining the Central Lafourche coaching staff for the 2026 season.
Local coach Josh Smith confirmed to By-U Sports today that he is going to be an assistant coach at Central Lafourche next season – working with the team’s hitters.
Smith was the head baseball coach at H.L. Bourgeois for several seasons before being relieved of his duties just before the 2025 season.
He spent last season on the staff at CCA, while still working at H.L. Bourgeois as a teacher.
Smith said he loved his time at CCA and learned so much working under coaches like Joe Teuton, Butch Theriot, Tristan Rogers and all of the staff there, but also added he’s excited to be a Trojan.
The Trojans missed the playoffs last season and are looking for a jolt in their offense.
Last year, the Trojans struggled mightily to score runs, but hitting is Smith’s speciality.
“I will want to work on the plate approaches,” he said. “At CCA, a big thing we wanted to focus on was walking more than we strike out, and if you look at last season, we had a lot of games with no strikeouts or just 1 or maybe 2. In those games, our team batting average was something crazy like .400. We want to instill in them to have a good approach, hunt fastballs and let’s put the ball in play and make the defense have to make a play.”
Smith said he is going to be starting with the Trojans on the Swampland side beginning next week, adding that he’s grateful to Martin for the opportunity.
