A local standout athlete is coming home to begin her teaching and coaching career – both at her Alma mater.
McKenzie Champagne will be an assistant softball and soccer coach next season at Central Lafourche, the place where she graduated and excelled as a multi-sport student-athlete.
Champagne was a graduate student at Nicholls last season and is a multi-year letter winner in softball.
Champagne was mostly injured in 2025, but had her biggest career season in 2024 when she hit .293 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI for the Colonels.
Before Nicholls, Champagne was a volleyball, soccer and softball standout for the Trojans – a dominant athlete who hit .766 in her senior season, earning All-State all 4 years of high school.
Champagne will be joining a softball and soccer program that are both in good spots. The Trojans won 22 games on the softball side last season and their soccer program is among the elite public school programs in the state – known annually for making deep postseason runs.
Congratulations Mac. They will be Blessed for having You. 🤗
