Terrebonne High School’s girls’ basketball team lost its lead assistant coach earlier this offseason when she took the head coaching job at CCA.

But Tigers’ coach Cassidy Barrios said the search for a new coach is going very well.

Barrios spoke about her team’s summer earlier this week, saying that she is pleased with the way her team is coming together with several new pieces.

The coach also said that her team will miss outgoing coach Katherine Ward, who she called a locker room favorite. But she added that interviews have been ongoing to replace Ward and she is happy with the talent that has stepped up to try and coach at Terrebonne.

“We will miss Kat. The girls were surprised to hear she was going, but they obviously understood that this was a step up for her and a great opportunity so we are all so happy for her,” Barrios said. “We have been doing interviews and they have been going well. We are really excited about some of the people who have expressed their interest. We hope to have some information to put out about our new assistant coach in the coming weeks.”

Barrios and the Lady Tigers are in the middle of their summer and she is happy with the strides the team is making. The Lady Tigers are in the midst of a program renaissance. The team struggled mightily in Barrios’ first season two years ago, but had immense success last year, winning 23 games and making the postseason.

Terrebonne has several returnees from that 20+ win team, but they also have added a slew of talent from Houma Junior High School who will be freshmen in 2025-2026, but who are going to play big roles.

Barrios said her team has depth and talent – so much so that it will be a challenge to play all of those players varsity minutes.

“It can be a blessing and a curse,” she said with a laugh.

But Barrios also said that the wealth of talent is exciting to be around, adding that practices have been intense and the team is competing in the summer.

Terrebonne has played all over the state in June and have faced a litany of Top 28 caliber teams. The Tigers have taken some bumps, but they have also flexed their muscles and have had success, scoring some big wins – wins that the coach hopes sets the tone for the next year.
