A former Ellender Memorial basketball standout has suffered a serious injury which will likely put most – if not all – of his 2025-2026 basketball season in jeopardy.
Jackson State forward Dionjahe Thomas announced on social media that he recently suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his foot, which required surgery.
Injuries for torn Achilles tendons usually take 9-12 months of rehab at the minimum, which means it’s highly unlikely Thomas will be able to play this coming season.
Thomas transferred from Southern to Jackson State this past offseason. He started his collegiate career at McNeese.
“I haven’t told many people but l’ve recently torn my achilles, and when I found this out it killed me hearing this news,” Thomas shared on social media. “Especially knowing what kind of season I knew I was fixing to have. I had to realize it ain’t my plan it’s God plan. So I took it as another chapter to my story. I’ll be back!”
Thomas was coming on as a big-time player at Southern toward the end of the last season.
With Jackson State, he was projected to be a starter and a key contributor. Thomas was just a sophomore last season, so he will still have collegiate eligibility.
