Former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron will owe his ex-wife $8 million in a divorce settlement, per a ruling issued today by the Louisiana Supreme Court.

The Court overturned lower court rulings, deeming that the former LSU coach owed his former wife Kelly $8.13 million dollars in a divorce settlement stemming from a buyout that the former coach received after being let go from LSU.

Orgeron agreed to a multi-year contract extension in 2020. He filed for divorce from his wife 6 weeks later. The contract was not approved at the time of the divorce, but the terms of the deal were agreed upon by both parties.

Lower courts ruled that Orgeron did not owe Kelly Orgeron any of the $17 million buyout he received from LSU after being fired in 2021.

But the Supreme Court reversed that decision via a 5-2 ruling and awarded Kelly Orgeron the $8.13 million sum.

Orgeron has made millions of dollars in coaching salary during his career in coaching. The extension he signed with LSU was a 6-year, $42 million deal. Prior to that, he coached for several seasons on a $4 million/year salary.

The coach said recently he is retired and is ‘very financially secure’ after the work he has done throughout his career.
