The Nicholls women’s basketball team is looking in-house in naming its newest member of its women’s basketball staff.
The Colonels announced former player Daelyn Craig as the team’s new assistant coach, replacing coach Jada Terry who left the program at the end of last season.
Craig is very familiar with coach Justin Payne and his vision for building a program. She signed with Payne to start her collegiate career at Georgia Southwestern, then transferred over with Payne to Nicholls where she played the final 2 seasons of her career.
She was a glue player for Nicholls, starting 30 games in 2 seasons and doing a lot of the dirty work, rebounding, taking charges, defending and making effort plays for the Colonels.
Payne announced earlier this offseason that he would have a new member of his staff, but said he could not announce the hire until it was official. But in speaking about the hire, he said he was “very excited,” because the new coach “understands our program, and will have the energy that we want to bring every day to our program.”
Craig has already hit the ground running. Several local players have made visits to Nicholls in recent weeks and she has mingled with the recruits and been active taking photos with them for social media. Nicholls has commitments and/or has signed several local pieces in recent cycles with outstanding offers to players in the Class of 2026, Class of 2027 and even Class of 2029.
