A local AAU basketball team fared exceptionally well this past week at the AAU National Tournament in Orlando.

The Louisiana Jaguars 2030 team took home fourth place after a busy week on the floor – showcasing their skills and representing themselves exceptionally well throughout the course of the multi-day event, which featured some of the top AAU teams in the country.

The Jaguars started the week strong, posting a 3-0 mark in pool play with all lopsided wins.

In bracket play, things tensed up with some nailbiters.

The local team opened bracket play with a 13-point win over a team from Long Island, New York before scoring a thrilling 69-66 win over the New York Gauchos in the quarterfinals to sit two wins from the title.

From there, the Jaguars lost a couple of heartbreakers, falling 42-39 to the Durham Hurricanes in the Semifinals, then 57-54 to the Florida Berkut in the 3rd place game to end the team’s week.

Coach Allison Betts said she is so proud of her boys for how they competed, though adding that the team could have very easily have brought home the big trophy if they had better protected the basketball late in crunch time situations.

The team is comprised of local players who gave the coach everything they had throughout the summer, enjoying immense success.
